"It has ever appeared to me, that the office of President of the United States should not be sought after by any individual; but that the people should spontaneously, and with their own free will, accord the distinguished honor to the man whom they believed would best perform its important duties."

--William Henry Harrison
Speech given at the Log Cabin Campaign at Fort Meigs, 1840

Harrison's tomb and monument on Mt. Nebo in North Bend contains the remains of William Henry Harrison, ninth president of the United States.

An obelisk of Bedford limestone, with marble entranceway, rises 60 feet above the tomb. From the terrace visitors have a spectacular panorama of the Ohio River valley.

Harrison, who was born in Virginia in 1773, spent most of his adult life in Ohio and Indiana. He served as secretary to the territorial governor, senator, representative, and president, but he is most famous as a military hero. Harrison commanded the western army during the War of 1812.

LOCATION

Harrison Tomb is in North Bend, in Hamilton County, 15 miles west of Cincinnati. It is located on Cliff Road west off U.S. Route 50.
