Davis Memorial Nature Preserve
Fountain Square
Columbus, OH 43224
614-265-6453
"We made a loop of less than a mile around the northern portion of the property which proved how great a variety of habitats can be found in a short distance in this area. In rapid succession, we passed through a limestone gorge with rare rock plants, climbed a rich wooded slope and ended by exploring an exciting dry prairie opening along a ridge."
-- Edward S. Thomas
Columbus Dispatch, 14 October 1962
This 88-acre nature preserve, set in an area of exceptional scenic beauty, is of interest primarily to geologists and botanists. The preserve contains an impressive geologic fault, dolomite cliffs, a cave, and a diverse flora. There are two richly forested hiking trails.
The rare rock plant Sullivantia, a remnant of preglacial times, is found here in abundance. Other interesting plants include arborvitae, great cane, hoary puccoon, and purple cliffbrake fern. The site is named in honor of Edwin H. Davis, Chairman of the Board of Davon, Inc., the company which donated the site.
LOCATION
Davis Nature Preserve is located at the intersection of Township Road 126 and 129, about three miles east of Peebles between State Route 32 and 73 in Adams County.
